External Cleaning
Dirty Removal: Use a soft-bristled toothbrush with a small amount of neutral detergent or a specialized cleaning agent to gently brush away dust, water stains, and moss from the water meter's outer casing. Avoid using strong acids, strong alkalis, or cleaning agents containing abrasive particles, as these may corrode the casing material or damage the surface coating.
Rinsing and Drying: Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any remaining cleaning agent, ensuring no chemicals remain. After cleaning, place the meter in a well-ventilated area to air dry naturally. Do not expose it to direct sunlight or use hot air to dry it, as this may deform the casing or cause internal components to become damp.
Internal Cleaning
Water Supply Shutdown and Reading Record: Before cleaning, shut off the valves before and after the water meter to stop the water flow and record the current reading for later accuracy verification.
Professional Handling: If there is dirt (such as sediment or impurities) inside the meter that affects the reading, you must contact the water supply company or a professional repairman. They have specialized tools (such as ultrasonic cleaning equipment) and experience to safely remove internal dirt, avoiding unauthorized disassembly that could damage the seal or cause metering errors.
Replace aging water meters: If a water meter exhibits signs of internal component aging, corrosion, or unclear readings due to prolonged use, and cleaning cannot restore its function, it must be replaced promptly to ensure accurate measurement.
General Cleaning Steps for Smart Water Meters:
Close Valves: Before cleaning, close the valves before and after the water meter to prevent water flow from interfering with operation.
Tool Preparation: Use a clean, soft cloth, cotton swabs, alcohol, or neutral soapy water. Do not use chemical solvents or abrasive cloths to avoid scratching the dial or damaging electronic components.
Dial Cleaning: Gently wipe the dial with a soft cloth to remove stains. For stubborn dirt, use a cotton swab dipped in a small amount of alcohol or soapy water. Be gentle to avoid damaging the display or sensor.
Component Cleaning: Clean the pressure interface and pressure tap of pressure transmitters (such as ultrasonic water meters) with a soft brush or cotton swabs. Do not use hard brushes or metal tools to prevent damage to the sensitive core or threads.
Drying: After cleaning, wipe away any residual liquid with a dry cloth to ensure no moisture accumulates on the dial and interfaces, preventing short circuits or corrosion.
